The Future Rapid Effect System (FRES) is the UK Ministry
of Defence (MOD) programme to provide the British Army
with a family of medium-weight, network-enabled,
air-deployable armoured vehicles to meet up to 16
battlespace roles. The key drivers for FRES are the need
for:
-
An
armoured Rapid Effect land capability.
-
Wide
operational utility.
-
Maximum
interoperability with other parts of deployed forces,
other components and allies.
M.J.M Design & Draughting has supported General
Dynamics with some Mechanical Design but mainly Manufacturing support in
the Build up to the FRES Trials of Truth which have taken
place in Bovington.
The MOD down selected 3 vehicles to go to the trials,
these are Boxer, produced by the
Dutch-German ARTEC consortium; Piranha, a Mowag design
presented by General Dynamics UK; and the VBCI (Véhicule
Blindé de Combat d'Infanterie, or "Armoured vehicle for
infantry combat") produced by the French company Nexter.
M.J.M has provided Design & Manufacturing support on two
out of the three vehicles down selected, these being Boxer
(3 1/2 years duration) & Piranha (6
months duration) Utilising our expertise in Design & Manufacturing enabled
our clients to place packages of work with us having the
knowledge that completion dates would be achieved and to
budget. |
